What we do
-
Film & TV Production
We develop and produce culturally resonant fiction and documentary projects that illuminate the lived experiences of people of African descent, anywhere.
Our diverse slate embodies a deep commitment to bold, character-driven storytelling, spanning both film and television, across genres.
-
Research & Access To Market
We conduct film business-focused research on the barriers Black and Global Majority-owned production companies face in accessing the European screen industries.
Based on our findings, we build strategic initiatives — including policy advocacy, convenings, and access-to-market programmes — designed to shift structures and open doors.
History
Founded in 2010 by Victoria Thomas, Republic of Story is Scotland’s first Black-owned production company. Specializing in both fiction and documentary, the company develops narratives that explore the lived experiences of people of African descent worldwide.
We have an active development slate across fiction and documentary, with development support from a range of partners to include BBC Northern Ireland, CNC and Screen Scotland.
Alongside filmmaking, Victoria conducts research on economic equity in European cinema and lectures the business of film at leading film schools and universities. She is a graduate of the UK’s National Film and Television School, alongside holding degrees in International Business, International Accounting, Law and Film, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
She is an alumnus of EAVE and regular Speaker/Moderator at film festivals across Europe on Economic Equity in European cinema.
