What we do

  • Film & TV Production

We develop and produce culturally resonant fiction and documentary projects that illuminate the lived experiences of people of African descent, anywhere, across genres.

  • Research & Access To Market

We conduct film business-focused research and build strategic initiatives — including policy advocacy, convenings, and access-to-market programmes — designed to shift structures and open doors.

History

Republic of Story is a storytelling and research company working at the intersection of film, policy, and representation in the UK and Anglophone West Africa. We tell stories across genres and forms through the lens of the lived experiences of people of African descent globally.

Alongside creative work, we generate research and data to build strategic interventions and provide evidence for policy change, designing initiatives, convenings, and partnerships that help shift structures and open doors within the screen industries.

Founded by Victoria Thomas, a BAFTA-nominated filmmaker, academic, and founder of No Password Required, the company bridges creative practice and structural reform. Victoria’s work spans fiction and documentary, often blending narrative with real-world commentary to explore global systems through African and diasporic perspectives.

Alongside filmmaking, Victoria conducts research on economic equity in European cinema and lectures on the business of film at leading film schools and universities.

She is a graduate of the UK’s National Film and Television School, and also holds degrees in International Business, International Accounting, Law, and Film at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. An EAVE alumna and regular speaker and moderator at film festivals across Europe, she continues to advocate for greater transparency and economic equity across the European film ecosystem.
